Google Redefines Buying Links
I was recently doing some research on link schemes and seen Google has update and redefined if buying links was legitimate practice. The new addition can be found at Google Webmaster tools with an article titled Link Schemes.
The important thing you have to understand here is if you buy links to increase pagerank then you are breaking the Google TOS. If you buy links for strictly advertising purposes then you are not breaking the Google TOS.
My mind wonders let’s look at the source code of the term link scheme in Google to check if the paid links found within Google are set to nofollow attribute? If you look at the source of a search and at the paid link href, no where within the source code can you find the link attribute nofollow attached to any of the paid ads. Very interesting!
Here is the stipulation Google has set out for us for buying links…
Adding a rel="nofollow" attribute to the tag and or Redirecting the links to an intermediate page that is blocked from search engines with a robots.txt file
So if you are going to buy links they should only be for advertising purpose and that includes attaching the nofollow attribute to them or through a redirect. Either way I think you get my point without me pointing out the obvious double standard. It is all in your intent when buying links. It is no sweat off my back I don’t buy links!
They even have a way you can report link schemer’s. What a wonderful feature nothing like building wonderful webmaster relationships around your SE Google. For real if you feel like being a nark to fellow webmasters I am sure that feature will work wonders for you. Either way I find all this very trivial at best. Anyone up for using Bing SE with me?
I value your input and would sure love to hear what you think about all this double talk!
