How do you find a keyword?

As we explained in last week’s article a keyword is any word or phrase that users type in a search engines search field. Keywords are free to optimize but some basic rules apply because you don’t want to waste your time chasing keywords that have extreme competition. That is not to say we should avoid all keywords that have high competition but we should not waste huge amounts of time at first trying to compete against already optimized keywords. That is why keyword research is so important.

So with that let’s take a look at where Google looks for keywords, where to find keywords on a website and what techniques we can use to tip Google off. Then we will jump in and take a deeper look at Google keyword tool and how to calculate estimated revenue. The estimated revenue will give us a ballpark idea and what we can expect if we applied sound seo to it.

I will be honest at first when I was introduced to keywords and what they can do for you I was taught how to maximize a website. These tactics included making five 500 word posts with sound seo applied to it and then build on backlinks and let the site work for you. This did not sit well for me. I can only imagine all of the website owners out there that post weekly for years hoping to increase their search engine listing spot and to have someone come along and make five posts and outrank them within a few days. To me this felt unethical, to make only 5 posts and let the website runs its course without little additional content. To Google well let’s just say search engine algorithms are changing daily. They are catching on quick too. When the internet first started out you just had to add a few keywords to your content and you would get pole position number one, meaning the top listing in Google for that search word or phrase. Times have changed and will continue to change. Credible websites that are very good at keeping up to date content will be the ones to stand the test of time so to speak. So cutting corners will hurt you in the long run. Now I am not saying that you have to post weekly content. You can have bi-monthly content and still be relevant but make sure you are consistent with your posting schedule.

Let’s look at a seo optimized website and were the keywords can be found on it.

You can see here I circled the keywords found in the article heading, in the content and in the category, and in the tag cloud. SenSeo can also display html aka Hyper-text Markup Language of a webpage. Proper seo optimization will include keyword rich alt text. Alt text is added to images for the visually impaired. Instead of them viewing the picture they will be able to hear what the alternative text states.

In order to understand advanced seo concepts you have to understand what we are talking about, how and where on a webpage it is applied to.

To summarize where to find keywords or keyword phrase.

  • In the article title – title should be clear and summarize the content of the article.
  • In the meta data – you can define the meta data in the title of the website and description of the site.
  • In each category listing and sub-listings – define and picking keyword rich category names is their for you to optimize.
  • In the title of website – title of website should be clear and describe the content of the website as a whole, unless branding company or personal name
  • In the website description – describe in less than 160 words what your website is about. Make sure you use a keyword once here.
  • In the article content – center on one keyword three times in a 500 word article. Make sure you bold the keyword.
  • In the image alt text -image alternative text is for the visually impaired. Make sure you drop a primary keyword here.

Meta Data is data that tells a Google robot what your website is and what it is about.

Google robot is a computer that scans your website so they can rank and place your website within Google Search Engine.

HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. It is the markup language for web pages. It dictates how a website is laid out and how it appears to a visitor. It is computer language you don’t see, that works behind the scene.

Generating backlinks will give you better rankings on search engine result pages and consequently more visitors. To achieve this, you definitely need to utilize automation softwares. Doing article marketing without some automated tools can be very overwhelming and time consuming.
