Niche Website Tools
In my last article we defined what a niche website is and introduced you to some commonly used phrases. If you missed out on that article please check out Defining a Niche Website.
So a more in depth discussion is in order about niche website tools seeings how we have you motivated about building a niche website. Hopefully you are more than motivated actually because the more excited you are the more receptive you are as a student. If you have ever heard of the famous pitchman Billy Mays he projects to his audience by being excited about each and every project he sells. What relevancy is Billy Mays to website owners? Simply put look at Google Search Engine as the performance stage and we are pitching our websites to users using that search engine. The higher we rank in a search query aka keyword the more visitors we will retain. Although SEO is very important step in building a successful website the tools we use and the research we do and how we employ that into a strategy are just as important.
The following picture shows what an organic search is and shows what cost per click means. Business owners buy ad space from Google, when we optimize for a keyword or keyword phrase we can expect that estimated cpc when we apply Google adsense to our site. So if the the cpc is .70 or 70 cents the highest paying ad Google sold a business was for 70 cents every time someone clicked on they ad. This is just a brief overview of the tools but these are some basic fundamentals you need to wrap your head around.
I want to take some time and talk with you about what browser to use. Although Internet Explorer is a feature rich browser it lacks the functionality webmasters need when using popular webmaster tools and doing research. Yes you can do keyword research in IE but the addons we need come with Firefox but are non-existent or few and far between in IE.
When you do the initial brainstorming of your website a a great tip is to create a site map. The map will consist of your homepage at the top then tier off into pages and then into categories. This is were brainstorming and keyword research come into play. Google recommends not to use the same keyword for each and every page, they want unique content and descriptions. So using one keyword across every single page is not only limiting the broad use of many keywords you could possibly capitalize on but you could get a ding on your website reputation if you get caught keyword stuffing. Keyword stuffing is stuffing the same word in every page, category, tag, meta tag and post. The following picture is a representation of what a site map is.
Niche website tools can be broken down into two categories one is for research purposes the second category contains working tools. Tools that are useful to us as webmasters while we work.
One of the research tools is Goggle Help. It offers us no nonsense help.
You can find it by stopping by Google Webmaster help section. They cover topics from Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to site configuration and everything in between. The great advantage of using there help feature is who is better to teach you about their tools then the people that made the tools?
Another great niche website tools that I would categorize as a very useful working tool is SenSeo. It can be found over at the official SenSeo Addon page.
