SEO article management is a must if you want to take your blog and website places. I talked about in a previous article how to postdate an article in WordPress but today I want to give you tips on how to optimize those articles for seo.
If you are going to anything right then let it be that drop your main keyword in title and the main keyword into the beginning of the first sentence of your article. The tittle and first line of your article should be 160 characters or shorter. This allows search engines to get a full complete title and full complete description of your article into your listing. Nothing worse than dropping your keyword at the end of a sentence and the search engines have no choice but to cut it out because only so many characters are allowed in the description field.
A good rule of thumb is you should be able to use the first line of the article as your description and it needs to be less than 160 characters long as said before.
Let’s look at an example of bad SEO article management practices then rewrite that example so you get the feel of what I am talking about.
The example topic is about Dog Grooming.
Title:
My Dog sparky like to be groomed.
First sentence:
My dog sparking enjoys when I brush him daily, it is not only good for his coat but it can keep his hair from being matted up, let me share with you more dog grooming tips.
Let us take a look at the title first. The only thing good about the title is it is under the 160 character limit. What it lacks though is the keyword although partly there it needs to be more specific with the full keyword. The description applied above fails on all levels it is approximately 191 characters long. Meaning 31 of those characters will be cut off by search engines. Within those last characters is your keyword “dog grooming”.
The description would look like this in a search engine.
My dog sparking enjoys when I brush him daily, it is not only good for his coat but it can keep his hair from being matted up, let me share…
So here is how you should rewrite it.
Title:
Dog grooming tips make for a happy pet.
Description:
Dog grooming gives my dog sparky the attention he needs daily.
Excellent title it applies the main keyword and gets straight to the point. When I read it I get the feel that this article will be about dog grooming and its benefits. So you might want to rephrase it to put benefits into it.
Now you will notice the first sentence is very short and to the point. It is exactly 78 characters long. It drops your main keyword and helps the reader understand what the article is about.
Now another benefit of a short first sentence and title is that when you go and copy and paste an article into twitter you will have enough space to put a link to the article.
