More on how to write an article can be found here in the last few articles I wrote called and covering article content management and crafting article title and description.
Today I wanted expand more on how to create an article and address tags and keywords.
As we noted in the previous lesson applying keywords and bolding the keyword in the content is a must to get Google to recognize you. But you might be saying to yourself why Google? Simply put Google holds over 80% of the market share of all internet users worldwide. Meaning 80% of the people that use search engines use Google eighty percent of the time. The rest of the other search engines account for the remaining percentage. So it is a must we recognize Google is the leader of the pack and we apply our SEO techniques catering to that search engine.
So lets talk about tags. Your first tag that should be added is the main keyword you bolded within the article and heading. Tags are a great way for visitors to reference your content. So they click the tag “seo tool” the browser will then take them to all the articles that have “seo tool” as a tag. You can see this is immensely helpful even for you as a webmaster.
Once you write more articles and apply more tags, the tags will be compiled into a tag cloud. A tag cloud is every tag found within your domain and it makes for an easy reference for your visitors to find the content they are looking for.
The normal tagging should include not more than 5 tags applied to one article. I have it hard finding five so what I do is make sure there are at least 3 tags applied to each article. Like I said this will be comprised of your main keyword (what the article is about) and two secondary or child tags.
So for this article you will notice I tagged it “how to write an article” and “article tags” and “article keywords”. Those tags are the main three ideas I want to get across to you the reader.
A good rule of thumb for your secondary tags is to drop that keyword atleast once in the content otherwise known as the body of the article. Again the main keyword covers what the article is mainly about and the secondary keyword or child keywords covers two aspects of the main topic.
Article Keywords used to be very relevant when it came to Google and listing your website easily within their engine. Many SEO Guru’s still swear by it but according to Google attaching keywords to an article is no longer needed but using keywords within the content is a must.
For me personally when I am in my WordPress backend I enter keywords and tags. I do them both exactly the same. Just incase Google in the future decides to switch back over the relevancy of using keywords and ranking websites higher that have them. But other than that a simple copy and paste will suffice. So don’t get bogged down with adding keywords outside of the article.
Inside the article is where dropping keywords is important and all of the above rules still apply. I hope that makes sense.
This is Scot Manaher signing off.
If you are confused about using keywords outside of the article please let me know I would gladly explain it deeper and get you some visual examples to help you understand it more clearly.
